Abstract

The shift in emphasis from the mass to the individual is a characteristic feature of modern humanities. Biographical studies are one of the current areas of historical cultural studies. This article examines the professional fate of Ivan Nikolaevich Turro, a candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor of the Department of Aesthetic Education (now the Department of Pedagogy of Primary Education and Artistic Development of the Child) of the Institute of Childhood of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of the Russian Federation. Having started working at the department immediately after completing his studies at the Academy of Arts, Ivan Nikolaevich remained faithful to his chosen direction, becoming one of the founders of the fine arts section, the oldest teacher and keeper of the department's traditions. I. N. Turro is a rare example of a polyphonically gifted person — a scientist, teacher and artist. In each of the three areas of activity, he became a recognized master, demonstrating high professionalism and dedication to his work. Artistic and pedagogical talent were organically combined in him with deep art history knowledge and the rational clarity of a scientist. The significance of Ivan Nikolaevich's personality is determined by the totality of his research, artistic and pedagogical activities. I. N. Turro's works in the field of aesthetic education and organization of the creative process allow us to consider his contribution as significant for the development of art education in Russia. Ivan Nikolaevich's life path is also of interest in light of the interaction of an individual with the global historical context for a more detailed study of major socio-cultural processes. I. N. Turro's academic biography demonstrates how an individual professional trajectory correlates with changes in educational institutions, the transformation of cultural practices and value orientations of society in the second half of the 20th century.
