This article is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of Vyacheslav Babiyak, a recognized Saint Petersburg artist and scientist, Doctor of Sciences (Art Criticism) and Professor at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. It provides a brief biographical overview of his life and career. The main focus is on Babiyak’s output as a remarkable graphic artist and a prominent expert in research dealing with the Russian art school of realistic drawing and specific aspects of teaching drawing to students. We analyze a number of graphic works, paintings and poems created by the artist, highlighting his contribution to the development of art criticism and its educational and pedagogical modes at Herzen University.
