Valery Alexandrovich Lednev: The spiritual grace of a Russian artist (for the 85th anniversary of his birth)

The article examines the work of the People’s Artist of Russia, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honorary Professor of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen. An analysis of the art history literature about the artist is given. Then the thematic paintings dedicated to the architectural ensembles of Saint Petersburg are analyzed. The uniqueness of winter and summer landscape compositions is described. Attention is paid to the peculiarities of the works dedicated to the small homeland. Portraits of prominent residents of Saint Petersburg from different eras are also considered. The canvases created by the author on multiple trips to China are considered. The review concludes with a description of the triptych “Recreators”, dedicated to the work of outstanding restorers of garden and park ensembles of Saint Petersburg and the suburbs.
